Under the Telangana Religious, Hindu Religious Institutions, and Endowments Act of 1987, the chairperson must be a hereditary trustee or a family member. The Congress government is exploring amendments to the act to appoint a non-trustee as chairperson while including representatives from the trustee family.

The Law Department has conducted a thorough review to preempt legal complications, offering clearance for the proposed amendments. The Justice Department is also involved in drafting changes to Section 151 of the act. Once finalized, the amendments will be presented to the Cabinet for approval and introduced in the upcoming assembly sessions.
