The weather forecast predicts heavy rainfall across the coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh, including the flood-affected NTR and Krishna districts, from Tuesday through Saturday. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for NTR and Krishna districts, warning of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms with lightning in isolated areas between Tuesday and Wednesday.
Dr. S. Karuna Sagar, a scientist at IMD Amaravati, explained that a cyclonic circulation is positioned over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, extending between 3.1 km and 5.8 km above sea level. A new low-pressure area is expected to form over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal around September 5.
This system is likely to bring heavy rains to isolated parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh until September 7. Additionally, strong surface winds of 30-40 kmph are expected in isolated areas of Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema until September 7.
Heavy rains on August 30 and 31 had already caused significant flooding in many parts of Vijayawada. The anticipated additional rainfall could exacerbate the situation and potentially lead to further flooding, according to officials. The unprecedented rainfall has already impacted nearly 4.5 million people.
